Anne Shulock

Anne Shulock joined the Anderson Collection at Stanford University as Interim Director on July 9, 2026.

Anne brings deep experience in arts leadership, institutional strategy, and collaborative programming to this role. Since 2019, she has served as Assistant Vice President for the Arts at Stanford, where she works to amplify the collective impact of the arts on campus and in the community. Her portfolio has included overseeing programs to increase student arts access and engagement, advancing public art that brings creativity into daily life, and developing Stanford Arts’ first comprehensive branding effort.

As Assistant Vice President, Anne has been a dedicated partner to the Anderson Collection in many capacities, from helping to steward the museum’s successful 10th anniversary celebration in 2024 to supporting a year-long visitor experience survey. Her commitment to creating meaningful encounters with modern and contemporary American art, combined with her established relationships across Stanford’s arts ecosystem, provides a strong foundation for this transition. Working in close partnership with Vice President for the Arts Deborah Cullinan and the Anderson Collection team, Anne will ensure the museum continues to thrive while the university conducts a search for its next director.

Prior to Stanford, Anne served as Chief of Staff at the San Francisco Art Institute (SFAI), an influential art college with a legacy of experimentation and innovation. During the post-World War II period, SFAI — then known as the California School of Fine Arts — was central to the development of many artists whose work anchors the Anderson Collection, including Richard Diebenkorn, Mark Rothko, Clyfford Still, David Park, Manuel Neri, and Jay DeFeo. Anne’s time at SFAI grounded her in how to honor foundational art historical legacies while nurturing emerging artists and scholars.

As Interim Director, Anne will focus on supporting the exceptional Anderson Collection team, sustaining the museum’s vibrant programming and community engagement, and upholding its ethos of generosity and accessibility. She looks forward to connecting with and learning from Anderson’s community of students, faculty, and visitors.
