Hosted by art historian and the associate director of ITALIC at Stanford, Kim Beil, the micro-video series “Up Close: One Painting Tours with Artists” focuses on a single object in the Anderson Collection, sparking dialogue with a guest artist.

Artist Marcela Pardo Ariza explores Paul Wonner’s Wine Glass and Postcard (Zurbarán)
Marcela Pardo Ariza is a visual artist and curator that explores transhistorical and intergenerational kinship, alternate forms of representation while celebrating the erroneous through constructed photography, prop-like objects and handmade bending frames and installations.
Ariza is the recipient of the Tosa Studio Award 2017, a Murphy & Cadogan Contemporary Art Award and an Alternative Exposure grantee (2018). Ariza holds an MFA from the San Francisco Art Institute, is a co-founder of Womxn Art Handlers and a current member of the Curatorial Council at Southern Exposure.

Artist Davina Semo explores Vija Celmins’ Barrier
Davina Semo has a BA in Visual Arts from Brown University and an MFA from the University of California, San Diego. Semo has shown extensively throughout the United States and Europe. She has recently been featured in group exhibitions at the San Francisco Arts Commission, Contemporary Jewish Museum (San Francisco), and Parts & Labor (Beacon).
Semo had three gallery solo shows in 2019: one at Marlborough Contemporary (New York) in January, one at Jessica Silverman Gallery (San Francisco) in March, and one at Ribordy Thetaz (Geneva) in November. She opened her first solo museum exhibition at the di Rosa Museum (Napa) in February 2020. Semo lives and works in San Francisco.

Artist Erica Deeman explores Jennifer Bartlett’s At The Lake, Morning
Erica Deeman is a visual artist living and working in San Francisco, CA. Originally from the U.K., she has lived in the States for just over 8 years. Deeman’s work explores portraiture and its traditions through the intersections of gender, race, and ethnic identities. Her work has been exhibited nationally and internationally at Aberystwyth Arts Centre, Aberystwyth, UK; Pier 24 Photography, San Francisco, CA; Berkeley Art Museum, Berkeley, CA, and New Orleans Museum of Art, New Orleans, LA to name a few.
